Green energy delivered in time for Christmas

01—
Setting the scene

Today’s retailers have to work doubly hard to attract and retain consumers who are quick to compare and switch loyalties.

It’s no longer a decision based solely on price, as more and more customers make environmentally conscious choices on what they buy, and where they buy it.

One market leading German and Eastern European grocery chain is continuing to invest in new supermarket sites across the region, with renewable energy at the heart of its growth.

We’ve already transformed two of its new stores in Germany. The first of many in our long-term partnership.

02—
Meeting the Challenge

Our brief was to provide solar PV solutions for the client’s new build supermarket stores ready and open in time for Christmas.

We called upon our world-class design and project management skills to ensure the smooth and speedy delivery of a solution that would save both energy and costs.

From the off-set, our plan was to carefully integrate the solar systems, altogether 1,500 Astronergy ASM panels, into the building’s design. In addition to the PV systems on the roofs, we also installed new docking stations, where customers can charge their cars and electric bicycles.

Every professional trade worked in perfect synchrony to deliver the project in time for the final piece of the jigsaw - the installation of the rooftop PV system, which we designed to accommodate the newly planted green roofs, and generate a yearly yield of almost 200 MWh per store.

03—
Getting the result

As the festivities began, our client could not have been more delighted. Sustainable new build supermarket stores, supplied by renewable energy, ready to open their doors to the public, on time and on budget. All in time for Christmas.

Together, the installation is generating enough energy to power 84 family homes and is saving over 100,000 kg of CO2 annually. This is making a significant contribution to the delivery of our client’s sustainability strategy while also driving down their energy costs – all from roof space that might have otherwise been left unused.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, customers are taking advantage of the charging stations, helping them to be more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint. A comprehensive ‘energy solution’!

As with any project - especially one with very specific deadlines and myriad contractors to work with - anticipation is key. Any small change can have a knock-on effect which is why we always have contingencies in place. Therefore, our clients trust us to deliver on time and on budget, every time.
