The Copperbelt Energy Company in Zambia provides the majority of the country’s mines with power, purchased from a state-owned energy company. But they wanted to start generating their own power and educating their people about renewable energy plants and how to operate them. They commissioned BayWa r.e. to install a 1 MW photovoltaic plant, the largest PV project in Zambia to date.
A central part of this project was to produce an extensive training programme, covering project development, plant maintenance and operational management, for the Copperbelt Energy Company and also to strike up a collaboration with the neighbouring Copperbelt University to explore opportunities to educate students in renewable energy.
Karadoc
Australia is a key market for BayWa r.e. and we’re proud to be playing a major role in its renewable energy transition. Although entering the market relatively recently, we already have four wind and three solar projects underway.
Our latest Karadoc project, in north-western Victoria, is one of Australia’s largest solar farms, generating enough power to supply the equivalent of 110,000 Australian homes.
Subsidy-free solar power
The 175 MWp Don Rodrigo solar farm is the first and largest subsidy-free utility scale photovoltaic plant in Europe.
Located close to Seville, it is the ultimate proof of being able to produce renewable energy at lower costs than any other form of conventional generation without any government subsidies or state support – the long-anticipated moment when renewable energy achieves grid parity.
Self-consumption for Pastores Grupo Cooperativo
In energy intensive industries the potential for renewable energy to reduce costs and emissions is significant.
In Spain, we’ve delivered a ground-breaking project with the Pastores Grupo Cooperativo – one of the country’s largest sheep farming cooperatives.
Part of the European Commission’s SCOoPE project, it aims to transfer good practices and energy efficiency to European agro-industries; especially cooperatives. It is BayWa r.e’s first self-consumption commercial and industrial (C&I) project in Spain, and is one of the first for the country.
O&M Best Practices Mark
The ongoing operations management and maintenance of renewable energy plants is crucial to ensuring they operate at peak efficiency.
A skilled service provider will make the difference between an underperforming plant and one that achieves optimised outputs and higher yields.
But all service providers are not the same. And in a rapidly evolving market where digitalisation is transforming what service providers can offer, investors and owners of renewable energy plants need to make sure they have the very best partners in place.
Milletorp Wind Park
Milletorp wind farm is located within the heart of dense forests, some 288 km South-West of Stockholm. It consists of eleven turbines generating over 66GW hrs of energy, enough to power 13,200 homes.
It was a challenging site and this turnkey project required careful planning, rigorous testing and wind measurement.
Six years after commissioning, it continues to play a vital role in generating green energy to make Sweden one of the most sustainable countries in the world.
