Whereas COVID-19 has put the brakes on many events, Team Sonnenwagen is gaining speed again as the ilumen 24hrs European Solar Challenge goes ahead.
Held in Belgium, it is the only 24hrs race for solar cars in the world and Sonnenwagen will be part of it – with two cars in fact!
The race will proceed on 18 – 20 September 2020 at the Circuit Zolder, Belgium which is actually a former F1 race track! The race takes place every 2 years and 2020 will be the fourth time. The 24hrs race itself will start on Saturday, 19 September 2020, 1pm.
The rules are kind of a challenge: The goal is to cover the greatest possible distance within 24hrs and only 2-stops for charging! But you can also get points for the best innovations in vehicle development, the eight consecutively most consistent lap times and the fastest lap.
In 2018, when Team Sonnenwagen participated for the first time, they took 3rd place with 147 laps in 24 hours. Now with two cars we hope that we could see at least one of them on the winners’ podium, maybe even on the top!
Only a bit more than 2 weeks left - we will keep you posted!
