The new 'Covestro Sonnenwagen' was unveiled at RWTH Aachen.
On Monday, 22 July 2019 the covers came off! The ‘Covestro Sonnenwagen’ was presented by the development team to the public after months of hard work, early mornings and late nights.
At the unveiling ceremony, Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Armin Laschet addressed the the team and 600 guests at the sold-out auditorium of RWTH Aachen, and praised the ingenuity and commitment of the Sonnenwagen team.
In comparison to 2017, the new Sonnenwagen is lighter more aerodynamic and even more more efficient. With its 890 solar panels the “Covestro Sonnenwagen” generates an optimum of 1 KW capacity. This energy can be stored temporarily in its battery, which will take the Sonnenwagen 500 km through the desert on a single charge. The self-developed hub motor provides an overall capacity of ca. 95 percent and can accelerate the solar car to a top speed of 140 km/h!
