BayWa r.e. is very pleased to announce that it is continuing to sponsor team Sonnenwagen Aachen as they attempt to create a world championship winning solar powered car.
With a busy few months ahead of them, the new Sonnenwagen race team is now gearing up for two major new solar challenges.
While we were of course disappointed that the planned race in Australia, due to take place this year, was cancelled because of the pandemic, we were delighted when it was confirmed that there would not only be an international race in Morocco in October, but also a European 24hr challenge in Belgium in September!
The news meant that the many thousands of hours of effort put in by the Sonnenwagen Aachen team over the last year had not been wasted and will be applied to the new competitions.
At BayWa r.e. we know the importance of pushing forward the boundaries of renewable innovation. By competing in solar races, teams like Sonnenwagen Aachen are helping to push forward the innovation of eMobility and solar powered travel for everyone.
It is competitions like these that really test new technology under extreme conditions and will help to accelerate our knowledge and learning about solar power and its potential applications for eMobility.
We’re excited to discover how the technological leap can be made from the racetrack to the road!
The team – comprising support from students from RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen University and supported by the likes of Siemens, Covestro and of course, ourselves, has been busy developing its third generation of car, with the two new races in mind.
It’s a testament to the team’s combination of innovation, courage, perseverance and patience over many months that, in spite of everything, they are now race ready.
We can’t wait to see them in action!
