Together with the Dakar based installation company Dieng & Co Engineering SAS, BayWa r.e. has commissioned four photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems in Senegal’s capital.

The systems, which have a total output of 800 kWp, were installed on behalf of the Senegalese government on four new ministerial buildings and on carports.

BayWa r.e. assumed responsibility for planning and delivering the components, and also provided on-site support during construction and commissioning. The international partner network that BayWa r.e. has developed was involved in implementing the project. By putting local installers in touch with international energy companies, the network helps with the implementation of local projects.

“We see the completion of the diesel hybrid systems in Dakar as a great success for two reasons,” explains Thomas Sacks, Sales Manager International Sales at BayWa r.e. Solar Energy Systems. “Firstly, this marks the completion of our first large solar sector project in Africa. Secondly, this is a prime example of how our partner network of developers, manufacturers and operations managers helps local installers to successfully realise projects. This collaboration has been a great success, and give us further encouragement to grow our partner network and implement other projects in the region.”

A team from OneShore Energy was also involved in the implementation of the diesel hybrid systems. OneShore Energy, which specialises in off-grid solutions, has been part of the BayWa r.e. Group for over a year and the expertise it brings broadens the spectrum of services that BayWa r.e. offers. The systems were installed by Dieng & Co Engineering SAS, which is based in Dakar and won the tender to implement the diesel hybrid system.

As the project drew to a close, Latyr Tanor Dieng, Head of Dieng & Co Engineering SAS, made the following comment: “BayWa r.e. and the partner network provided us with highly experienced, knowledgeable and professional support. This was crucial to the success of the project. Thanks to the close partnership approach, we were able to install the systems within just a few weeks and commission them on schedule. We are delighted that through this project, we have also made an important contribution to the use of renewable energy in Senegal.”
