Elicio & BayWa r.e. pre-selected in Floating Wind Tender

Elicio, an international wind energy producer, and BayWa r.e. have pre-qualified for participation in the tender of the first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm, with a capacity of 250MW, situated south of Brittany, France. It is the largest call for tender for floating wind on an industrial scale in Europe to date.

A symbiotic and competitive alliance

Elicio, a historic player in offshore wind power:

Elicio brings some 15 years of offshore wind experience to the consortium. The company has developed, constructed and manages 3 offshore wind farms off the Belgian coast - SeaMade, Norther and Rentel - with a total of 144 turbines and more than 1.1 GW of installed capacity.

Elicio has been established in France for a number of years and develops, finances and builds its projects, operating 16 onshore wind farms in the country with a total capacity of 173 MW; 10 of these are located in the Brittany region.

Elicio also participated in the first offshore wind tender following a competitive process in France (AO3 Dunkirk), allowing the company to develop an in-depth knowledge of the French offshore wind market.

BayWa r.e., a global renewable energy pioneer:

BayWa r.e., having installed 4 GW of renewable capacity globally as well as managing 10 GW of assets, brings its expertise in project and asset management to the consortium.

Furthermore, BayWa r.e. has developed its own floating solar solution and is a European leader in implementing this technology, with 11 projects already installed. Since 2020, the global renewable energy developer has deployed engineering teams specialised in offshore wind projects.

This tender participation underlines BayWa r.e.’s ambitions in the European offshore market and launches the company’s activity in France, where it has been active since 2005. The company has already built more than 340 MW of wind and solar power and operates a total of 720 MW in France. BayWa r.e. is also well established in the Brittany region where it operates 17 wind turbines with a capacity totaling 35 MW.

A common ambition:

BayWa r.e. and Elicio are established partners in other floating offshore wind projects. The companies notably submitted a joint bid in mid-July in response to the "ScotWind" offshore wind tender in Scotland.

Elicio-BayWa r.e. Consortium will participate in Seanergy:

Elicio and BayWa r.e. will participate in the Seanergy trade fair that will take place in Nantes, France, from the 21st to 24th September 2021. The consortium will share the same booth at the international Marine Renewable Energy event.
