Supporting EU research and policy.

BayWa r.e. has successfully secured €6.5 million in funding from the EU’s LIFE (L’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement). These funds will go towards six of our Agri-PV projects under development, across France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy.

LIFE is the EU’s funding vehicle for environmental and climate action.

They leverage private sector expertise for public benefit by financing projects which support sustainable policy goals.

These projects are monitored by ELMEN EEIG, a collective of nine independent EU-based partner companies with headquarters in Freiburg, Germany.

ADAPT-PV and LEAD-PV projects

Each of our six new research Agri-PV projects fall into one of two EU LIFE categories; LIFE ADAPT-PV or LIFE LEAD-PV.

ADAPT-PV Projects

ADAPT-PV projects increase Agri-PV’s resilience in the face of climate change: Protection from extreme weather, reduced plastic waste, optimised land use.

We’re gathering data to prove that Agri-PV alongside fruit cultivation (fruitvoltaics) is an effective climate adaptation strategy for Europe.

LEAD-PV Projects

LEAD-PV projects set out to showcase the attractiveness and effectiveness of utilising Interspace PV to mitigate climate change by bringing together large scale PV and arable farming.

The projects will collect data to demonstrate the attractiveness of the financing models, provide insight into the cultivation benefits and ultimately support future large-scale implementation.
