About Matthias Taft

Matthias Taft was born in Munich in 1967. From 1988 to 1993, he studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich. In addition, he studied industrial engineering at the University of Hagen from 1997 to 2001. 

In 2003, Matthias took over the management of RENERCO Renewable Energy Concepts AG and since 2013 has been responsible for the management of BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH. In addition, Matthias was responsible for the Renewable and Conventional Energy divisions as a member of the Board of Management of BayWa AG from 2015 to 2021. 

Since 2021, he has been CEO of BayWa r.e. AG.

About Dr. Mihaela Seidl

Dr. Mihaela Seidl is CFO and Member of the Managing Board of BayWa r.e. AG since May 1st 2023.

Mihaela has more than 20 years of experience in finance, operations and leadership at global companies that focus on Energy, Healthcare and Public Security. She held executive and supervisory board positions and has a proven track record and expertise within capital markets, strategy and transformation, audit, financing, and M&A.

Before joining BayWa r.e. AG, Mihaela worked as CFO and Managing Director at ESG Group. Prior to that, Mihaela worked for a Munich-based IT Tech public listed company in Finance. This was followed by a 15-year tenure at General Electric Company, where she held several senior leadership positions, her most recent one being CFO of GE Distributed Power Business.

Mihaela studied Economics at the University of Economic Studies, ASE Bucharest, where she completed her doctorate studies in Economics and Management. This is also where she started her career as a controller for ABB in 1999.

About Daniel Gäfke

Daniel Gäfke is Global Director of Projects and a Member of the Management Board of BayWa r.e. AG since November 1st 2023.

Daniel has more than two decades of experience in the renewable energy industry. He is responsible for BayWa r.e.’s onshore Wind and Solar Projects businesses in EMEA and APAC. He also oversees its Energy Solutions business, which helps corporations in their energy transition. 

Before joining BayWa r.e., Daniel founded and managed Annex Power and also co-founded and managed PETRO Umwelt- und Tanktechnik GmbH. Furthermore, he played a key role in building up Conergy Asia Pacific’s Indochina business, where he was involved in the region’s first major Solar, Wind and Bioenergy projects. 

Daniel studied Business Administration at the University of Bielefeld, the University of Leicester, and KEDGE Business School. He holds a diploma in Business Administration, an MBA, and a Master of Science degree. Additionally, he holds a Euro-Asia Doctorate degree in Business Administration (DBA) under the joined program of KEDGE, Hong Kong Baptist and Ranepa Universities.

About Marcus Pöllinger

BayWa AG’s additional representative is Marcus Pöllinger. Since joining the company in 2008, he has held various positions, including Head of the Building Materials Segment. He has been a member of the Board of Management of BayWa AG since 2018.

In this role, he is responsible for Agriculture, Building Materials, Energy, Corporate IT and Digital Farming Segments, among others. He took over as Chief Executive Officer of BayWa AG in April 2023.

About Roland Dörig

Roland Dörig founded Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) in 2014. He is one of two managing partners of EIP and a member of its investment committee. He also sits on several boards of directors of EIP portfolio companies. 

Previously, he was a founding partner of The Advisory House, a strategy consultancy for the European energy sector. Prior to that, he worked at an international management consultancy, specializing in European utilities. During his time as a consultant, he gained extensive project expertise amongst others in corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and implementing energy trading and risk management.

Roland Dörig holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Applied Sciences, St. Gallen.

About Andreas Helber

Andreas Helber has been CFO of BayWa AG since 2010. He also represents the company in management and supervisory bodies of international holdings.

He joined BayWa in 2000 as Head of Finance. Subsequently, he took over as Head of Investor Relations and was granted general power of attorney in 2007. Earlier, he worked as a business graduate at KPMG Deutsche-Treuhand-Gesellschaft AG in Munich. During this time, he was appointed tax consultant and auditor. 

Andreas Helber holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Siegen.

About Ruedi Noser

Ruedi Noser (born 1961) is an entrepreneur and member of the Council of States. Since 1996, he has been the owner of the Noser Group, which today is one of the largest ICT companies in Switzerland with more than 700 employees. The Group's expertise lies in the field of IT.

His political career began in 1999 when he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council. In 2003, he was elected to the Swiss Parliament as a National Councillor. From November 2015 to 2023, he represented the canton of Zurich in the Council of States.

Ruedi Noser was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Switzerland Innovation, an organisation that aims to bring global corporations and their research departments to Switzerland. He is also committed to promoting young entrepreneurs and was President of Young Enterprise Switzerland for many years.

About Martin Rey

Martin Rey is member of the Supervisory Board at Nordex SE, as well as Chairman of the Supervisory board of clearvise AG (former: ABO Invest AG), and a member of the Supervisory Board, member of the Audit Committee and Chairman of the Credit Committee of the Supervisory Board of Kommunalkredit Austria AG, Austria. He also holds the position of  Chairman of the Advisory Board of O2 Power Ltd. Singapore/Delhi, India, and serves on several other boards of international companies.

Earlier, he was member of the Group Executive Management Board at Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG, and worked in management positions at various international investment, consulting, as well as energy and infrastructure companies – e.g., Babcock & Brown (Australia), Knight Infrastructure B.V. (Netherlands) and Brisa AutoEstradas de Portugal.

Martin Rey studied Law at the University of Bonn and Business Administration at the University of Hagen.

About Tim Marahrens

Tim Marahrens is the Co-Head of Investments at Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP). He joined EIP shortly after it was founded in 2014. Since then, he has been responsible for many of EIP’s landmark transactions, particularly in the global renewables sector. This includes the successful acquisition and construction of the 1,000 MW wind park Fosen Wind, Europe’s largest onshore wind park. He also sits on several boards of directors of EIP portfolio companies. 

Before joining EIP, he worked in investment banking in the power & utilities sector at UBS and Merrill Lynch, among others. 

Tim Marahrens holds a dual master’s degree in Financial Mathematics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, and the University of Zurich.

About Dr. Suzanne Thoma

Dr. Suzanne Thoma has been Executive Chairman of Sulzer Ltd since 1st November 2022. Prior to that, she served as Sulzer Chairman of the Board of Directors since April 2022. She was CEO of the BKW Group until the end of June 2022. She led this company for nine and a half years, transforming it from a traditional Swiss utility into an international energy and infrastructure company. 

After completing her studies and doctorate at the ETH, she began her career at Ciba Spezialitätenchemie AG, where she held various management positions in Switzerland and abroad. She then went on to lead a start-up specialising in high-tech materials and technology licensing, Rolic Technologies AG.

Suzanne Thoma is a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Venture Group, Vice-President of the "think tank" Avenir Suisse and was appointed Honorary Councillor of ETH Zurich last autumn.

About Reinhard Wolf

Reinhard Wolf was appointed to the BayWa AG Board of Management in 2013.

He began his career at the Österreichische Raiffeisen Warenzentrale in Vienna in 1985 after completing a degree in agricultural engineering.

In May 2009, he was appointed Director of the Board of Management of BayWa’s affiliated group RWA (Raiffeisen Ware Austria) and has been Chief Executive Officer and General Director of RWA, based in Korneuburg near Vienna, Austria, since March 2013. 

Our Committees

Audit and Investment Committee

The Audit and Investment Committee monitors the financial reporting process as well as the effectiveness of the internal control, audit and risk management systems (including the compliance management system) and approves investments above a certain threshold. The Committee also prepares the proposal on the election of the external auditor, commissions the auditor and determines the key focus points of the audit. The members of this committee are Martin Rey (Chairman), Andreas Helber (Vice Chairman) and Tim Marahrens.

Remuneration and Nomination Committee

The Remuneration and Nomination Committee reviews the extent to which members of the Board of Management have achieved their targets and prepares the review of the Board of Management’s remuneration system, including the setting of targets for variable remuneration. Further, the Committee seeks suitable candidates for the election of shareholder representatives to the Supervisory Board. The members of this committee are Marcus Pöllinger (Chairman), Roland Dörig (Vice Chairman) and Reinhard Wolf.

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee has regular exchanges about sustainability-related issues (Environment, Social, Governance – ESG) which are relevant for economically sound and sustainable development, as well as for the reputation of the BayWa r.e. Group. The members of this committee are Marcus Pöllinger, Ruedi Noser (Vice Chairman), and Dr. Suzanne Thoma.

Strategy Committee

The Strategy Committee supports the Executive Board on reviewing the strategic development and on questions of corporate strategy of the BayWa r.e. Group as well as projects of strategic relevance. The members of this committee are Marcus Pöllinger, Roland Dörig (Vice Chairman), Andreas Helber, and Dr. Tim Marahrens.
