BayWa r.e., a fully owned subsidiary of BayWa AG, has constructed another four photovoltaic plants in Germany with a combined output of more than 8 MWp. The solar farms were commissioned by companies partially financed by local residents, with some structured as mutual societies. "These solar farms primarily benefit parishes and local residents. This puts energy transition on a solid footing, as these plants are widely accepted by local residents", explained Klaus Josef Lutz, chairman of BayWa AG.

In the parish of Niederviehbach (Lower Bavaria), the "Bürgerenergie Essenbach" mutual society has invested in a solar farm project near the A92 motorway. Interested residents from the surrounding communities can participate in the venture by acquiring a stake, starting from €500. In Niederraunau (Swabia), the PV Park Niederraunau-Aletshausen eG, founded 2012 on the initiative of the Raiffeisenbank Krumbach, is already investing in its third major greenfield PV plant. All sites were planned and engineered by BayWa r.e. In the parish of Sanitz near Rostock, BayWa r.e. is establishing another solar farm on an area of wasteland last used 15 years earlier by a concrete manufacturing plant. The leasing income for the two-hectare site directly benefits the parish. The municipal enterprise "Alternative Energieversorgung Weißensberg" gave BayWa r.e. the go-ahead for creating a solar farm in the Lampertsweiler district. The parish, situated in the climatically favoured region of Lake Constance, now also benefits from using solar energy and will be operating the new solar farm under its own management. BayWa r.e. completed all PV plants on schedule by the 30/04/2013, enabling them to benefit, as intended, from the statutory remuneration scheme in force in April. For the plant technology, BayWa r.e. called on its proven in-house system design, coupled with quality components supplied by Yingli, Power One and Zimmermann.
