The BayWa r.e. project team has just begun the construction of the last of six sections of the 57.4 MWp La Coste solar farm. This means that one of France's biggest solar farms will be brought online before the end of the year. The plant capacity represents approximately eight percent of the total expansion of solar power in 2013.

"We plan to have the sixth and final section of Fontenet completed this autumn", explained Matthias Taft, Chairman of the Management Board of BayWa r.e.: "Despite record rainfall causing difficult working conditions, we have succeeded in constructing the third, fourth and fifth sections of La Coste on schedule over the winter and have completed this part of the project in late April. Now we are on the home stretch with Fontenet."

The La Coste solar farm is principally located in the Aquitaine region around Bordeaux and comprises six sub-projects of different magnitudes (see graphic). Following its final commissioning, the solar farm will generate in excess of 75,000,000 kWh of electricity each year and will be able to supply around 20,000 French households with renewable energy. BayWa r.e. is both an investor in La Coste and owner, and has been active in the renewables business in France since 2005. Prior to this large-scale project, the company has built several wind farms and smaller solar farms in various French regions.
