BayWa r.e. implements photovoltaic system for on-site consumption at Kaufland hypermarket branch

In late 2015, on behalf of Kaufland, BayWa r.e. commissioned a photovoltaic system on the roof of a newly constructed hypermarket in Frankfurt-Fechenheim. In doing so, BayWa r.e. designed and realised the first rooftop system for on-site consumption for this trading company in the whole of Germany. In addition to the new PV system, which has an output of around 200 kWp, two DC quick charging stations were installed to charge electric vehicles, as was a charging station for e-bikes.

As usual, BayWa r.e. made use of high quality solar components from industrial plant engineering in the construction of this system. Kaufland customers can see – in real time – how much green electricity the system is producing on a screen on the shop floor of the hypermarket. The chosen charging infrastructure is supplied with power straight from the PV system and contributes to the fact that 100 % of the solar power obtained is consumed directly on site.

"We were able to bring our experience to bear in implementing Kaufland's newly developed, sustainable blueprint both professionally and efficiently. It covers not only energy generation from renewables, but also electromobility," explained Matthias Taft, Board Member of BayWa AG. "By realising this project on schedule in just four weeks, we have demonstrated, yet again, our expertise in the design and installation of PV solutions that are optimised for on-site consumption."

In the future, collaboration between BayWa r.e. and Kaufland will continue as part of a full service maintenance contract for the system that has been installed, including the e-mobility charging infrastructure.
