BayWa r.e. successfully commissioned a rooftop photovoltaic system on the BayWa logistics centre near Schweinfurt, which is currently still under construction. The rooftop system has a total output of 630 kWp, making it the largest PV system operated by BayWa AG.

The company's supra-regional logistics centre is due to be completed in spring 2016. The decision to install a solar PV system was reached at an early stage of the design process, to allow full use to be made of the large roof area. "Such projects are not just beneficial in relation to climate protection, they also remain a profitable investment for commercial and industrial enterprises who want to reliably calculate and optimise their production costs in terms of energy outlay. explained Matthias Taft, BayWa AG's Energy CEO. Until early 2017 this kind of projects should continue to benefit from the currently favourable regulation for on-site consumption. “For us, installing the system was therefore a matter of course and we are pleased to have now successfully completed a further project of this magnitude," continues Taft.

All of the power obtained from the PV system is currently exported to the grid. Once the logistics centre has been commissioned, the on-site consumption rate of over 50 % means that the site will be highly sustainable and self-sufficient to run.
