BayWa r.e. joins SolarPower Europe, the European Industrial Association for the photovoltaic sector
By joining SolarPower Europe (formerly the EPIA), BayWa r.e. has demonstrated its commitment to promote the photovoltaics sector at a European level. The company is already involved with numerous national associations throughout Europe that represent this industry. Membership of SolarPower Europe signals the importance of a wider European perspective on solar PV for BayWa r.e. as a company.
"We are an organisation operating worldwide and so it is important for us not only to pursue our particular interests, but also to monitor developments across the international political, environmental and socio-economic spectrum – enabling us to work towards a European energy transition that is in tune with national interests", summarised Matthias Taft, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. and a Board member of BayWa AG for the energy sector. One important matter to be addressed is the establishment of stable general conditions for onsite consumption of renewable energies within the framework of the European Energy Efficiency Directive. "On site consumption technologies have already shown great potential as the energy generated can be consumed locally; which in turn reduces grid loads. At the same time, consumers are given a straightforward opportunity to participate in the energy transition. Optimised by various storage technologies, solutions for consumption on site present a progressive and reliable component of a re-shaped energy market", continues Taft.
A further important subject, at a European level, is the ongoing discussion on tariff regulations for PV modules made in China. BayWa r.e. supports the stance taken by SolarPower Europe, to not persist with minimum price regulations. This would enable the return of a drop in module prices which in turn would create the general conditions for an affordable energy transition.
SolarPower Europe is an industrial association with European enterprises as members. It is the aim of this association to assist the photovoltaic sector in the achievement of greater market growth within Europe by means of corresponding regulatory conditions. BayWa r.e. is an international renewable energy project developer, service provider and distributor of PV components with numerous locations across Europe. A leader in the solar PV industry, the company has already implemented PV projects with a total output of around 270 MW across Europe. "As a full-service provider, we consider ourselves well represented in the solar PV sector by SolarPower Europe at a European level and look forward to working together over the long term", says Taft.
