BayWa r.e. has successfully brought four more solar farms online in England. The plants have a combined output of 85 MW and are located near Northampton, Aylesbury, Oxford and Reading.

Construction of all four plants was achieved by BayWa r.e. in just twelve weeks. The company's in-house system design meets the most demanding standards in terms of optimised installation, subsequent maintenance efficiency and high component quality. Commissioning of the solar farms, which took place according to schedule in March, enables the projects to be accredited under the RO (Renewables Obligation) scheme in the UK. BayWa r.e. financed the four projects itself and will now look for institutional investment partners to take on the long term ownership of the assets.

"These four plants offer our business partners attractive investment opportunities and our usual high quality standards assure them of correspondingly high output levels. Alongside wind farm projects and trading in solar components, our solar project management business makes a significant contribution to our commercial success in the UK. We want to see another 80 to 100 MW installed there by the end of the year," explained Matthias Taft, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. and member of the BayWa AG board representing the energy division.Through the technical and commercial operations management that it also provides, BayWa r.e. currently manages 360 MW of wind and solar farms in the UK.

The UK is one of the core markets for BayWa r.e.'s renewable energy business. To date, the company has built solar and wind farms in the UK with a total output of over 230 MW. The majority of the assets constructed and commissioned so far have been sold on to investors. Further projects are still at the engineering or construction stage. The company also continues to seek consented opportunities to construct and operate.
